Liturgical Calendar of the Order of Preachers

This Liturgical Calendar combines both the General Calendar of the Order, which is for the entire Order, and the Special Calendar for the Provinces of the Order, which lists the additional Blesseds not found in the General Calendar. These latter feast days may be celebrated ad libitum if a Province, Monastery or Congregation should choose to do so, and have no indication of the rank of feast after them in this calendar. In addition to those ” titles ” which are commonly used in the Western Latin Church, the Dominican Liturgical Commission, U.S.A., has added those of “friar,” “nun,” “sister,” or “lay Dominican” to indicate their particular branch of the Dominican Family.  Variations for Australia are shown in italics. This calendar is a Supplement to the Roman Calendar. It has been revised to accord with the Catalogus Hagiographicus (2001) and the Additamenta ad Proprium Missalis et Liturgiae Horarum (2006).

This calendar is also available for downloading in Word97 or PDF format. If you are looking for a more detailed Ordo, listing the liturgical directions for each day, you can download the current Ordo in Word97 or pdf format here, or view an interactive version on-line.

Explanation of symbols:

* These celebrations are not strictly speaking part of the Calendar of the Order, but are suggested on these days in the Proper; if these days are unsuitable, they may be celebrated as votive offices on any other suitable day.

** This anniversary should be marked by an intercession in Prayers of the Faithful at Mass and Intercessions at the major hours of the Office.

*** A “solemn chapter” or other similar proclamation of the Lord’s Incarnation is suggested in the Proper for these days.
In addition, one may note two frequent celebrations customary in the Order:

  • Conventual Mass should be offered for the deceased of the Order once a week; they are to be mentioned in the Prayer of the Faithful.
  • Mass and Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is encouraged on the free Saturdays of Ordinary Time.

Celebrations in square brackets [ … ] are feasts of the Roman Calendar for which the Order has special liturgical texts.
